Fanuc Alarm 222 - DNC OP. NOT ALLOWED IN BG-EDIT

SYSTEM ALARM 222

Fanuc alarm 222: SYSTEM ALARM 222. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 222 occurs when DNC (Direct Numeric Control) operation is attempted while the machine is in background edit mode with simultaneous input/output activity. The control detects a conflict between DNC communication and background editing operations, which are mutually exclusive functions on Fanuc systems.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press SYSTEM key, navigate to PARAM screen, search for parameter 3106. Check bit 0 (EDIT BGE). If set to 1, background editing is enabled.

  2. 2

Exit background edit mode by pressing EDIT key, then press OFFSET/SETTING key and soft key [OPRT] to check operating mode. Ensure no program editing is active in background.

  3. 3

Reset alarm by pressing RESET key. Re-initiate DNC operation only when background editing is complete and inactive.

  4. 4

If DNC and background editing must coexist, coordinate operations so DNC transfers occur only when background edit is idle. Set parameter 0020#0 (TVH) to 0 to disable background editing if not required.

Disabling background edit removes ability to edit programs while machining cycle runs

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes don't resolve the issue
  • ·Hardware communication failures persist
  • ·Memory allocation errors continue after parameter adjustment

Prevention

  • Establish clear workflow separating DNC and background edit operations
  • Configure parameter 3202 bit 5 for automatic background edit suspension
  • Train operators on proper sequence of I/O and editing operations

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting to run DNC while background edit is active
  • Not checking I/O channel status before starting operations
  • Ignoring parameter 3204 memory allocation settings
