Fanuc Alarm 214 - ILLEGAL COMMAND IN SYNCHRO-MODE

SYSTEM ALARM 214

Coordinate system setting or shift-type tool length compensation was executed during synchronous control.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 214 occurs when a G-code command attempts to perform coordinate system setting (G92, G54-G59, G10 L2/L20) or shift-type tool length compensation (G43/G44/G49) while synchronous control mode is active. Synchronous control typically involves coordinated spindle-spindle or axis-spindle operations where these commands would disrupt the synchronized relationship.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the program around the alarm occurrence. Search for G92, G54-G59, G10 L2, or G10 L20 commands that appear after synchronous mode activation (typically G51.2 for spindle synchronization or parameter-based tandem control).

  2. 2

Check SYSTEM > PARAM and verify parameters 4900#0 (spindle synchronization), 8151-8154 (tandem axis settings), or 1024#5 (Cs contour control) to identify active synchronous control modes.

  3. 3

Modify the program to issue coordinate system commands before entering synchronous mode or after canceling it with G51.2 P0 (for spindle sync) or appropriate tandem control cancel command.

  4. 4

If coordinate shifts are necessary during synchronized operations, use G52 local coordinate system instead of G92 or work coordinate changes, as G52 may be permitted depending on parameters 5400#0 and machine configuration.

Verify G52 compatibility with your specific synchronous application before implementation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Sync control hardware malfunction
  • ·Repeated alarms after program correction

Prevention

  • Structure programs to set coordinates before sync mode
  • Use program templates for sync operations
  • Implement proper sync mode cancellation sequences

Common Mistakes

  • Forgetting to cancel sync mode before tool changes
  • Using G92 within synchronized machining cycles
  • Mixing coordinate system changes with sync operations
