Fanuc Alarm 133 - Servo Not Ready

Servo Not Ready

Fanuc servo alarm 133: Servo Not Ready. The servo system has detected a fault condition on the specified axis. Check the Fanuc diagnosis screen (DGN 200, 204) for the specific sub-alarm code.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 133 occurs when the CNC detects invalid or improperly formatted data within an external alarm message (EAL - External Alarm) sent from a PMC ladder program or macro executor. This typically happens when the message number, format specifiers, or message length specified in the EXLM (External Alarm Message) function does not match the configured external alarm message parameters or contains illegal characters/codes.

Safety

  • Cannot move axes

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check parameters 6700-6709 (external alarm message number assignment). Verify which message numbers are defined and their corresponding addresses in parameters 6710-6719.

  2. 2

Access the PMC ladder program using FANUC LADDER-III or the built-in PMC menu (PMC > LADDER). Search for EXLM (External Alarm) function calls and verify the message number being called matches a defined parameter 6700-6709 entry.

  3. 3

Check PMC signal D9000-D9019 (external alarm message request addresses). Use PMC > PMC DATA > DATA TABLE to monitor which message number is being requested when alarm triggers.

  4. 4

Correct the PMC ladder EXLM function call to reference a valid message number defined in parameters 6700-6709, or add the missing message definition to the parameter table and power cycle the control.

Parameter modification requires FANUC parameter write enable (setting 8 bit 0 to 1) and may require a control restart.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Servo amplifier hardware replacement needed
  • ·Complex parameter restoration required
  • ·Multiple simultaneous servo failures

Prevention

  • Regular encoder cable inspection
  • Maintain proper DC bus voltage
  • Keep servo parameter backups current
  • Test emergency stop circuits monthly

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring DC bus voltage levels
  • Assuming all servo ready issues are motor problems
  • Not checking safety circuit status first
  • Mixing up encoder cable connections during maintenance
