Fanuc Alarm 137 - M-CODE AND MOVE CMD IN SAME BLK

PMC System Alarm

The M code for spindle positioning and the axis address of a spindle positioning axis were specified simultaneously.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 137 occurs when a part program block contains both an M-code that commands spindle positioning (such as M19 for spindle orientation) and a move command for the axis that is designated as the spindle positioning axis (typically C-axis). This simultaneous specification violates Fanuc programming syntax rules, as spindle positioning commands and C-axis movement commands must be issued in separate blocks.

Safety

  • Machine logic affected
  • ⚠️ CRITICAL: Machine safety logic may be compromised
  • Electrical Hazard: Disconnect power to the machine before performing any electrical troubleshooting. Lockout/Tagout procedures must be followed.
  • Mechanical Hazard: Be aware that the machine's axes may move unexpectedly if the PMC program is corrupted. Ensure the work area is clear of obstructions and personnel.
  • Crush Hazard: Some PMC errors can cause unexpected activation of hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders. Keep hands and other body parts clear of potential pinch points.
  • Static Discharge Hazard: When handling electronic components, use proper ESD precautions to prevent damage.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment and ensure the area is safe before proceeding.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Locate the alarm block number in the CNC display and review the NC program at that line number. Look for M19, M119, or other spindle positioning M-codes combined with C-axis address words.

  2. 2

Separate the commands into two blocks: Place M19 (or spindle orient M-code) in one block, then program the C-axis movement in the subsequent block. Example: Change 'N100 G00 X50. C90. M19;' to 'N100 M19; N101 G00 X50. C90.;'

  3. 3

Verify parameter 4000#0 (C-axis control enable bit) and parameter 4016 (spindle positioning M-code number, typically 19) are correctly set to confirm system configuration for spindle positioning.

  4. 4

Test the modified program in single block mode to confirm the spindle orients correctly with M19, then the C-axis executes the rotary movement independently.

Do not run program in automatic mode until single block testing confirms proper operation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·PMC ladder modifications required
  • ·Servo parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Mechanical spindle orientation issues

Prevention

  • Always separate M19 and C-axis commands into different program blocks
  • Verify parameter backup before making spindle configuration changes
  • Use proper dwell times between spindle orient and positioning moves

Common Mistakes

  • Programming M19 C90.0 in same block
  • Modifying parameter 3117 without understanding spindle control method
  • Not allowing sufficient time for spindle orientation completion
