Fanuc Alarm 410 - Position Error at Stop

Excess Error (Stopped)

Fanuc servo alarm 410: Excess Error (Stopped). The servo system has detected a fault condition on the specified axis. Check the Fanuc diagnosis screen (DGN 200, 204) for the specific sub-alarm code.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 410 occurs when the position deviation (droop) of the specified axis exceeds the tolerance set in parameter 1826 (in-position check width) while the axis is commanded to be stopped. This indicates the servo system cannot maintain positional accuracy within acceptable limits, typically caused by mechanical resistance, incorrect servo gain settings, or amplifier/motor issues preventing proper position loop closure.

Safety

  • Axis may move unexpectedly
  • Check brake function

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to DIAGNOSIS screen > Servo Monitor and observe parameter 300 (position deviation) for the alarmed axis. Normal at-rest deviation should be within ±20 pulses. Values consistently above 50-100 pulses indicate mechanical issues.

  2. 2

Power off the machine and manually move the alarmed axis through its full travel range. Feel for binding, unusual resistance, or tight spots indicating way problems, ballscrew damage, or bearing failure.

Lock out machine power and relieve hydraulic/pneumatic pressure before manual movement per OSHA standards

  3. 3

Check Parameter 1826 (in-position check width) for the alarmed axis. Typical values are 50-200 depending on system resolution. Verify Parameter 1825 bit 4 (APZ) is enabled for in-position checking.

  4. 4

Inspect amplifier current display via DIAGNOSIS screen > Servo Load Monitor (parameter 436). Excessive current (>70% rated) at standstill indicates mechanical overload requiring maintenance on ways, ballscrews, or linear guides.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Mechanical binding requires major repair
  • ·Encoder replacement needed
  • ·Servo amplifier replacement required

Prevention

  • Maintain proper lubrication schedule
  • Regular servo parameter backup
  • Monitor position deviation trends
  • Keep encoder cables properly routed

Common Mistakes

  • Setting P1826 too high compromising accuracy
  • Adjusting servo gains too aggressively
  • Ignoring mechanical issues and only adjusting parameters
  • Not backing up parameters before changes
