Fanuc Alarm 054 - NO TAPER ALLOWED AFTER CHF/CNR

SYSTEM ALARM 54

Fanuc alarm 054: SYSTEM ALARM 54. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 054 occurs when a programmed block contains both a chamfer (,C) or corner rounding (,R) command AND a taper specification (,Q or ,Qn). The Fanuc control does not allow taper cutting to be combined with chamfering or corner rounding in the same block, as these are mutually exclusive geometric operations.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the program block flagged in the alarm display. Identify if both ,C or ,R and ,Q parameters are present in the same G01 line.

  2. 2

Remove the taper command (,Q or ,Qn) from the block if chamfer/corner R is required, or remove the ,C or ,R command if taper cutting is required. These operations cannot coexist in a single block.

  3. 3

If both operations are needed, split into separate sequential blocks: execute the tapered move first in one block, then program the chamfer or corner rounding in the following block.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm with RESET button, restart the program from a safe position, and verify proper execution without alarm recurrence.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required for I,J,K modal behavior
  • ·Systematic post-processor issues affecting multiple programs

Prevention

  • Always separate geometric modification commands (CHF, CNR) from taper commands into different blocks
  • Configure CAM post-processor to avoid combining incompatible G-code commands
  • Use program verification tools before loading programs to machine

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming I, J, K addresses are automatically cleared after arc moves
  • Not understanding that CHF and CNR are geometric modifiers that conflict with taper commands
  • Copying program blocks without checking for modal I, J, K values
