Fanuc Alarm 053 - TOO MANY ADDRESS COMMANDS

SYSTEM ALARM 53

Fanuc alarm 053: SYSTEM ALARM 53. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 053 occurs when a G-code block contains conflicting or redundant address commands for chamfering (G01) or corner rounding (G01) operations. Specifically, the program has specified two or more of the I, J, K, or R addresses in a single block where only one is permitted to define the chamfer distance or corner radius.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Identify the flagged N-block number displayed with the alarm on the CNC screen. Review the program line in EDIT mode to locate the conflicting addresses.

  2. 2

Check for chamfering command syntax: For chamfers, only use I (for ,C notation after coordinates) or a single I/J/K value. For corner rounding, use only R followed by the radius value. Remove any duplicate or conflicting address codes.

  3. 3

    Correct the block to contain only ONE chamfer/radius definition address. Example: Change 'G01 X100. Y50. I5. R5.' to either 'G01 X100. Y50. I5.' OR 'G01 X100. Y50. R5.'

  4. 4

Reset the alarm (RESET button), return to memory/MDI mode, and restart the program from a safe position before the corrected block.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Macro program conflicts persist after variable cleanup
  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Alarm occurs with standard G-code programs

Prevention

  • Always use single address method for corner operations
  • Validate programs with CHECK function before running
  • Clear unused macro variables before corner operations
  • Use program templates for consistent chamfer/radius syntax

Common Mistakes

  • Mixing R and I/J/K in same block
  • Copy-pasting code without removing conflicting addresses
  • Not clearing macro variables between operations
  • Using CAM post-processor with incorrect address filtering
