Fanuc Alarm 060 - Invalid Repeat Count

Illegal Repeat Count

Fanuc program alarm 060: Illegal Repeat Count. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 060 occurs when a repeat count specified in a subprogram call (M98 P____ L____) or canned cycle exceeds the allowable range defined by the control. The repeat count 'L' value must typically be between 1 and 9999, though some controls limit this to 999 or have parameter-dependent limits. This is a programming error that prevents cycle start until the out-of-range value is corrected.

Safety

  • Loop will not execute

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press RESET to clear the alarm, then press PRGRM key and review the current program line displayed on the screen where alarm occurred.

  2. 2

Locate the M98 subprogram call or canned cycle line (G73, G74, G76, G80-G89) and verify the L-word value. Check if it exceeds 9999 (or 999 on older controls).

  3. 3

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check parameter 3117 (subprogram nest level) and parameter 3107 (max. repetition count setting) if available on your control series to verify system limits.

  4. 4

Edit the program and reduce the L-word repeat count to a valid range (1-9999 or 1-999). If more repetitions are needed, restructure the program using nested subprograms or main program loops.

Ensure program logic remains correct after modifying repeat counts. Test in single block mode after correction.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Memory diagnostic failures
  • ·Alarm persists after program corrections

Prevention

  • Always validate M98/M99 syntax before program execution
  • Maintain current tool offset data
  • Use consistent sequence numbering
  • Regular program backup procedures

Common Mistakes

  • Using L0 in M98 commands
  • Referencing non-existent sequence numbers
  • Exceeding maximum tool numbers
  • Improper subprogram nesting
