Siemens 62181 - Block : Set rotary axis [deg]

Block: Set rotary axis [deg]

Sample display of the swivel angle to be set for a manual rotary axis in CYCLE800: 62181 "Set rotary axis B: 32.5 [grd]"

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 62181 is an informational message from CYCLE800 (5-axis swivel cycle) that displays the settable angle for a manual rotary axis requiring operator intervention. This alarm fires when CYCLE800 attempts to position a rotary axis that is configured as manual rather than automatic, requiring the operator to manually rotate the axis to the displayed angle before cycle continuation.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to Siemens SINUMERIK 840D HMI: Menu > Diagnostics > Machine Data > search for MD20050 (Axis type) for the affected rotary axis (B or C).

Do not modify machine data without authorization; verify axis configuration matches machine capability.

  2. 2

Confirm the axis configuration: if MD20050 = 1 (MANUAL), the axis requires operator positioning. If MD20050 = 2 (AUTOMATIC), verify MD20100 (Drive assignment) is correctly linked to a servo drive in the NCK parameter tree.

  3. 3

If the axis should be automatic but is flagged as manual, contact your Siemens service team or machine builder to reconfigure MD20050 and associated drive parameters (MD20100, MD20110). Reboot the control after any machine data changes via Menu > System > Shutdown > Warm Start.

Improper machine data changes can cause loss of axis calibration or safety violations.

  4. 4

If the axis is correctly configured as manual, acknowledge alarm 62181 on the HMI, then manually position the rotary axis to the displayed angle using the handwheel or pendant, and press Cycle Start to resume CYCLE800.
