Okuma OSP Alarm C 3181 - MCS DIFF over

MCS DIFF over

The following error of the axis named in the object exceeded the allowable limit: the actual position lagged the calculated command position (RCON) by more than permitted while moving. The machine stops the axis because it can no longer guarantee positioning accuracy.

Common Causes

  • Mechanical overload from a faulty ball screw or bearing
  • Motor unable to deliver required torque
  • Inverter unit fault
  • Servo data file with incorrect gains or limits

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code value = Absolute value of following error in pr/65536 units (pr = one turn of position encoder).
  2. 2Read the code: it is the absolute value of the following error in pr/65536 units (pr = one turn of the position encoder), so note how far the axis lagged.
  3. 3Check for mechanical overload on the named axis: inspect the ball screw and bearings for binding, and check slideway lubrication, since excessive resistance makes the axis lag the command.
  4. 4Jog the axis unloaded and watch the load and following error; high error at low load points to a motor or inverter unit problem rather than mechanics.
  5. 5Verify the servo data file for the axis is the correct version; wrong gains or limits produce a permanent following error.
  6. 6If mechanics and data are good, have the motor and inverter unit checked, then re-home the axis and confirm the following error stays within limit under rapid traverse.
