Okuma OSP Alarm C 3169 - MCS ABSO SCALE initialization failure

MCS ABSO SCALE initialization failure

The control failed to initialize the ABSO SCALE (absolute position scale) for the axis named in the alarm object, or for the spindle if no axis is shown. Until the scale initializes, the control cannot establish absolute position for that axis.

Common Causes

  • Faulty ABSO SCALE unit on the indicated axis
  • Damaged or loose encoder link cable or connector between the scale and the drive
  • Faulty inverter unit control board

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis name shown in the alarm object to identify which ABSO SCALE is failing.
  2. 2Power down and inspect the encoder link cable and connectors for that axis: reseat both ends and look for bent pins, contamination or cable damage along the run.
  3. 3If the cable and connectors are good, swap or test the ABSO SCALE itself, as it is the next most likely faulty item.
  4. 4Only after the scale and cabling are eliminated should the inverter unit control board be suspected; lock out power and allow capacitor discharge before handling drive hardware.
  5. 5If initialization still fails, record the alarm number and object and contact Okuma service.
