Okuma OSP Alarm P 0881 - MCS DIFF over

MCS DIFF over

While the named axis was moving, the gap between the NC's calculated position (RCON) and the actual encoder position grew beyond the allowable following-error limit. The axis could not keep up with the commanded motion, pointing to excessive mechanical load or a drive/motor problem.

Common Causes

  • Mechanical overload from a faulty ball screw or worn bearing making the axis hard to move
  • Axis motor fault or loss of torque
  • Inverter unit problem reducing drive output
  • Corrupted or mismatched servo data file

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code (value) = Absolute value of the following error in pr/65536, where pr is one turn of the position encoder
  2. 2Note the axis named in the alarm object and the code value, which is the absolute following error in units of pr/65536 (pr = one turn of the position encoder); a large value confirms the axis lagged badly.
  3. 3With power off and locked out, check the mechanical side of that axis first: turn the ball screw by hand if possible and feel for binding, tight spots, or rough bearings; inspect lubrication to the screw and guideways.
  4. 4Check for a crash or obstruction: look for chips packed in the way covers, a shifted workpiece or fixture, or tooling contact that could have stalled the axis.
  5. 5If the mechanics move freely, suspect the drive chain: check the axis motor and inverter unit for fault indications, and verify motor power and feedback connectors are tight (lock out and allow drive capacitors to discharge before touching power wiring).
  6. 6If the alarm appeared right after a servo data file change or NC software work, reload the correct servo data file for that axis.
  7. 7If the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code value, and axis name and contact Okuma service.
