Okuma OSP Alarm P 0898 - MCS Full abso scale initialization failure

MCS Full abso scale initialization failure

The control could not finish initializing the full absolute scale for the axis or spindle named in the object field. The encoder link sequence stopped at the stage shown in the code, so absolute position from that scale is unavailable.

Common Causes

  • Communication error on the encoder link to the full absolute scale
  • Transmission or reception time over during the initialization sequence
  • Parameter error, incompatible basic communication information, or multi-rotation detection range mismatch

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XX = Encoder link sequence number at error: 0 reset, 1 network address setting, 2 basic communication info request, 3 communication version change, 4 device info acquisition, 5 parameter change, 6 AT mode start; code YY = Error content: 0 communication error, 1 transmission start time over, 2 transmission finish time over, 3 reception finish time over, 4 abnormal response address, 5 abnormal response code, 6 parameter error; code ZZZZ = Additional data: C2ERR link status, QC2MTINF frame info, responding device address, QC2RXINF received frame, or parameter number detail
  2. 2Read the code: XX is the encoder link sequence number at error detection (0 reset, 1 network address setting, 2 request of basic communication info, 3 communication version change, 4 device info acquisition, 5 parameter change, 6 AT auto mode start); YY is the error content (0 communication error, 1 transmission start time over, 2 transmission finish time over, 3 reception finish time over, 4 abnormal response address, 5 abnormal response code, 6 parameter error); ZZZZ is additional data.
  3. 3Power down and reseat the full absolute scale connector and cable on the named axis, checking for bent pins and coolant ingress.
  4. 4Inspect the scale cable run for damage or poor shielding that would cause communication errors or time overs.
  5. 5For YY=6 parameter errors, note the ZZZZ detail: 1 means not all necessary parameters received, 2 means basic communication information incompatible, 3 means multi-rotation detection range does not match; correct the scale/servo parameter data accordingly.
  6. 6If the failure is at the same sequence step after cabling checks, replace the full absolute scale or contact Okuma service with the recorded code.
