KRC0364

KUKA Robot KRC0364 - Unknown Operation Mode

Unknown Operation Mode

This alarm indicates that the robot controller has entered an undefined or unrecognized operation mode state, typically due to corrupted mode selection signals, faulty key switch position, or internal state machine error in the KRC4 control logic. The controller cannot determine whether it should operate in T1, T2, Automatic, or Automatic External mode, resulting in a safety lockout condition. All motion commands are inhibited until a valid operation mode is established.

Common Causes

  • Faulty or damaged mode selector key switch on the smartPAD with intermittent contact or incorrect position reading sent to the controller
  • Corrupted safety PLC logic or mode selection configuration in the SafeOperation module causing inconsistent mode state evaluation
  • Wiring fault or voltage issue on the X11 interface affecting the Automatic External mode enable signals from the PLC or fieldbus
  • Software corruption in the controller operating system or mode state machine requiring a cold boot or system image restoration
  • Conflicting mode requests from multiple sources such as simultaneous T1 selection and Automatic External enable signal active

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Power cycle the smartPAD by disconnecting and reconnecting it to reset the mode selector interface, then rotate the key switch through all positions
  2. 2Step 2: In the smartPAD display menu, navigate to Configuration > Safety Configuration > Operation Modes and verify the current detected mode state matches key switch position
  3. 3Step 3: Check X11 connector pins for Automatic External enable signals (typically pins 19-20) using a multimeter to verify correct 24VDC levels when mode is selected
  4. 4Step 4: Access WorkVisual and review the SafeOperation configuration for mode selection logic, verify no conflicting conditions or incorrect interlocks are programmed
  5. 5Step 5: Perform a cold boot of the KRC4 controller by fully powering down cabinet for 30 seconds, then restart and observe if mode detection initializes correctly
  6. 6Step 6: If alarm persists after cold boot, backup user programs and perform a software integrity check or restore controller system image from known good archive, contact KUKA support if hardware replacement is needed
