KRC0149

KUKA Robot KRC0149 - Overvoltage <kps number> while charging

Overvoltage <kps number> while charging

This alarm indicates that the voltage level detected on the specified KPS (KUKA Power Supply) module has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold during the charging phase of the power supply initialization sequence. The KRC controller has detected an overvoltage condition that could damage sensitive electronic components if operation continues, triggering a protective shutdown of the affected power supply channel.

Common Causes

  • Faulty voltage regulator or power supply module failure
  • Incorrect input AC voltage supplied to the controller cabinet (exceeding 264VAC for 240V systems or 528VAC for 480V systems)
  • Damaged or degraded filtering capacitors in the power supply causing inadequate voltage regulation
  • Defective charging circuit or soft-start module in the KPS unit
  • Loose or corroded electrical connections at the main power input terminals creating intermittent high voltage spikes

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the input AC voltage at the controller cabinet main power terminals using a calibrated multimeter; voltage should be within ±10% of the rated nominal value
  2. 2Power cycle the robot controller completely and observe if the alarm recurs during the initialization sequence to determine if it is intermittent or persistent
  3. 3Inspect all power supply module connectors and ribbon cables in the cabinet for corrosion, loose connections, or physical damage and reseat securely
  4. 4Check the KPS module capacitors visually for signs of bulging, leakage, or discoloration indicating electrolytic capacitor degradation
  5. 5Use the KUKA diagnostic interface or KRC HMI to monitor real-time voltage readings on the affected KPS channel during power-up
  6. 6If voltage readings are confirmed excessive, contact KUKA service to arrange replacement of the faulty power supply module; do not attempt to operate the robot until the condition is resolved
