KRC0136

KUKA Robot KRC0136 - WATCHDOG POWER MODULE <power module number>

WATCHDOG POWER MODULE <power module number>

The watchdog monitoring circuit on the specified power module has detected a communication timeout with the KRC4 controller. The watchdog timer expects a periodic keep-alive signal every 0.125 milliseconds from the Distributed Safety Electronics (DSE) and has not received it within the expected interval.

Common Causes

  • DSE module communication link to the power module is physically disconnected or loose
  • DSE processor is hung or experiencing a critical software fault that prevents periodic watchdog signal generation
  • Power module firmware is corrupted or out of synchronization with the KRC4 kernel version
  • CAN bus or point-to-point communication line between DSE and power module is experiencing intermittent errors
  • Real-time operating system on KRC4 experienced a timing violation that caused DSE to miss the watchdog deadline

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Power down the entire KUKA system completely and inspect all connectors between the DSE module and the affected power module for loose or corroded contacts
  2. 2Power up the robot and check the diagnostic display on the KRC4 controller to confirm DSE module initialization completes without errors
  3. 3Verify that the power module firmware version matches the KRC4 kernel version through WorkVisual system information panel
  4. 4Reset the power module by cycling the main contactor or performing a soft reset through the smartPAD interface
  5. 5If the alarm clears and does not return, document the event in the service log; if it recurs, the DSE or power module likely requires replacement
  6. 6Contact KUKA field service to perform hardware diagnostics including oscilloscope measurement of the watchdog signal timing if the issue persists after reset
