KRC0131

KUKA Robot KRC0131 - Bus Voltage Charging Unit Defective

Bus Voltage Charging Unit Defective

The bus voltage charging unit on the KPS power supply module has detected a defective optocoupler component that is not properly registering the current flow signal. This failure prevents the controller from verifying the charging status and cuts power to all robot axes as a safety measure.

Common Causes

  • Optocoupler IC component failure due to age degradation or manufacturing defect on the KPS circuit board
  • Solder joint failure or cold solder connection on the optocoupler pins due to thermal cycling stress
  • Input signal line short circuit or open circuit preventing proper optical signal transmission through the optocoupler
  • Contamination or moisture ingress on the KPS circuit board causing electrical leakage paths across optocoupler terminals
  • Excessive voltage spikes or EMI interference on the KPS power bus damaging the optocoupler semiconductor junction

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Power cycle the entire KRC4 control cabinet by switching the main contactor off and waiting 30 seconds before restarting
  2. 2Verify that all connectors between the KPS charging unit and control cabinet are fully seated with no corrosion on contact pins
  3. 3Use a multimeter to check for 24V DC presence at the KPS input terminals and confirm proper voltage output to the brake holding circuits
  4. 4Inspect the KPS module for visible signs of component damage, burnt areas, or loose solder joints under the optocoupler region
  5. 5Access the KPS module configuration through WorkVisual and run the internal power supply diagnostics to confirm optocoupler failure
  6. 6Replace the KPS charging unit module with a verified replacement from KUKA spare parts inventory as repair of individual optocouplers is not supported
