KUKA Robot KRC0089 - DRIVES CONTACTOR OFF, INTERMEDIATE CIRCUIT LOADED !!!

DRIVES CONTACTOR OFF, INTERMEDIATE CIRCUIT LOADED !!!

The drives contactor has opened, causing loss of main power to the drive system while the intermediate circuit remains charged. The robot will perform a path-maintaining stop, but the intermediate circuit requires approximately 2 minutes to fully discharge before the system can be safely restarted.

Common Causes

  • Main contactor failure or electromagnetic coil malfunction in the power module
  • Overcurrent condition detected by drive protection circuits triggering contactor dropout
  • Power supply voltage drop below minimum operating threshold
  • Emergency stop activation or safety circuit interruption
  • Thermal overload protection triggered by excessive drive temperature

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Allow 2-3 minutes for the intermediate circuit to fully discharge before attempting any restart
  2. 2Check the emergency stop button status and verify it is in the released position
  3. 3Inspect the main power supply voltage and confirm it meets KRC4 cabinet specifications
  4. 4Examine the power module contactor terminals for signs of arcing, corrosion, or loose connections
  5. 5Review the drive system error logs in the KUKA smartPAD to identify any overcurrent or thermal fault conditions
  6. 6If the fault persists after power cycling, contact KUKA service to test or replace the power module contactor
