KUKA Robot KRC0079 - STOP KEY <RCP or teach pendant>

STOP KEY <RCP or teach pendant>

A start command or axis traversing command has been initiated on the teach pendant or RCP while the STOP key remains actively depressed. This is a safety violation that prevents motion to ensure operator control integrity during program or manual operations.

Common Causes

  • Operator or technician simultaneously holding the STOP key and attempting to press the START button or axis traversing keys on the teach pendant
  • STOP key physically stuck in the depressed position on the teach pendant or RCP, preventing release
  • Mechanical wear or dirt contamination on teach pendant key switches causing intermittent contact or false detection
  • Software noise or intermittent electrical signal from the teach pendant causing the KRC4 to falsely detect simultaneous STOP and START key states
  • Teach pendant cable intermittency creating conflicting key press signals during the transition between STOP release and START activation

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Release the STOP key completely and ensure it returns to its unpressed position before attempting any motion commands on the teach pendant
  2. 2Inspect the teach pendant or RCP STOP key for mechanical sticking, residue, or physical damage that prevents normal return to the unpressed state
  3. 3Clean the teach pendant keypad and STOP key contact area using appropriate electronics-safe solvents and compressed air
  4. 4Verify proper teach pendant connection and communication by checking the device status in the KUKA smartPAD system settings
  5. 5Test the teach pendant key switches with a multimeter or use the KRC4 diagnostic interface to confirm individual key signal states are correct
  6. 6If key switch issues persist, contact KUKA service to replace the teach pendant membrane or conduct key switch calibration in the KRC4 configuration
