KUKA Robot KRC0080 - CHECK SAFETY LOGIC. DRIVES OFF TIMEOUT DURING EMERGENCY STOP OCCURRED

CHECK SAFETY LOGIC. DRIVES OFF TIMEOUT DURING EMERGENCY STOP OCCURRED

This alarm indicates that the robot's drive motors failed to deactivate within the expected timeout period during an emergency stop (E-stop) event. The safety logic detected that the drives did not power down promptly after an E-stop signal was issued, which is a critical safety violation. This condition prevents normal robot operation until the safety circuit is verified and reset.

Common Causes

  • Defective or worn emergency stop button/switch not making proper electrical contact
  • Damaged safety relay module or contactor preventing proper drive shutdown signal transmission
  • Faulty drive enable/disable circuitry or power supply interface to the motor amplifiers
  • Communication timeout between the KRC controller and the drive control electronics during E-stop sequence
  • Broken or corroded wiring in the safety circuit path between controller and motor brake/contactor circuits

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Press the emergency stop button and verify it physically latches in the depressed position; release and check for smooth mechanical return to normal state
  2. 2Inspect all safety relay contacts and contactors for visible arcing, corrosion, or mechanical damage; test relay coil continuity with a multimeter
  3. 3Check the wiring harness between the KRC controller safety output terminals and the drive enable/brake circuits for loose connectors or damaged insulation
  4. 4Verify the safety logic configuration in the robot controller using KUKA.Workvisual; confirm emergency stop function is properly mapped to safety outputs
  5. 5Test the drive shutdown response time using the controller's diagnostic functions; ensure brake activation and motor deceleration occur within specification
  6. 6If hardware inspection is clean, perform a full safety circuit test and controller backup restore; if alarm persists, contact KUKA service for safety module replacement
