KUKA Robot KRC0084 - COMMON DRIVES ERROR <axis number>

COMMON DRIVES ERROR <axis number>

This alarm indicates a communication or operational error has occurred in the servo drive system for a specific robot axis. The drive controller has detected a fault condition that prevents normal axis operation, such as encoder feedback loss, drive overtemperature, or internal controller malfunction. The <axis number> variable identifies which joint (1-6) is experiencing the fault.

Common Causes

  • Encoder cable disconnection or damage between axis motor and drive controller
  • Servo drive overtemperature due to excessive current draw or ambient heat
  • Corrupted drive firmware or configuration parameters in the axis controller
  • Power supply voltage fluctuation or insufficient current capacity to the drive unit
  • Motor phase failure or short circuit in the axis servo motor windings

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the specific axis number from the alarm and check the corresponding servo drive unit for LED status indicators showing fault codes
  2. 2Inspect the encoder cable and motor power connector on the affected axis for loose connections, corrosion, or visible damage and reseat all connectors firmly
  3. 3Verify power supply voltage at the drive input terminals using a multimeter (should be within specified range, typically 24VDC ±10%)
  4. 4Clear the alarm using the KRC teach pendant and attempt slow manual axis movement in T1 mode to verify drive responsiveness
  5. 5If alarm persists, access the axis-specific drive parameters in KRC diagnostics menu to check for logged error codes and reset drive if necessary
  6. 6If unresolved, perform a drive firmware update or replace the servo drive module, then recalibrate the axis encoder zero position using calibration utility
