KUKA Robot KRC0077 - FAILURE IN ESC SAFETY LOOP

FAILURE IN ESC SAFETY LOOP

This alarm indicates a failure or disruption in the Emergency Stop (ESC) safety loop circuit of the KUKA KRC controller. The safety loop is a critical hardwired circuit that monitors the emergency stop button and related safety devices to ensure proper functioning of the robot's emergency shutdown capability. When this alarm is triggered, the robot will immediately halt all motion as a safety precaution.

Common Causes

  • Emergency Stop button physically pressed or stuck in activated position
  • Loose, corroded, or damaged wiring connections in the ESC safety loop circuit
  • Faulty Emergency Stop button or safety relay module requiring replacement
  • Short circuit or insulation breakdown in the safety loop cabling
  • Disconnected or malfunctioning safety-rated monitoring device (safety gate switch, enabling switch, or interlock)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the Emergency Stop button is not physically pressed or stuck; release it fully and confirm audible click
  2. 2Inspect all safety loop wiring harnesses and connectors for visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections; reseat connectors firmly
  3. 3Check the wiring continuity of the ESC safety loop circuit using a multimeter in continuity mode according to the KRC electrical schematic
  4. 4Test the Emergency Stop button functionality by pressing and releasing it multiple times to ensure proper mechanical and electrical operation
  5. 5Inspect the safety relay module and all hardwired safety devices (interlocks, gate switches) for proper seating and functionality
  6. 6If alarm persists after verification, perform a controller power cycle by removing main power for 30 seconds, then restore power and attempt to reset the alarm through the teach pendant
