KUKA Robot KRC0076 - OPERATOR SAFETY / GATE OPEN

OPERATOR SAFETY / GATE OPEN

The operator safety circuit has been triggered while the robot controller is operating in AUTOMATIC or EXTERNAL mode, typically due to a safety gate or protective device being opened. The robot must immediately cease motion and enter a safe state until the safety condition is restored.

Common Causes

  • Safety gate or protective enclosure door opened during automatic program execution or external command mode operation
  • Operator safety device (SafeOperation button or similar) pressed or activated during AUTOMATIC or EXTERNAL mode
  • Failure or malfunction of the safety gate proximity sensor or interlock switch causing false safety signal
  • Loose or disconnected safety circuit wiring at the peripheral interface terminals on the KRC4 controller
  • Safety software configuration issue in the KRC4 where the safety input is incorrectly mapped or triggered by noise

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Immediately stop the robot program and verify that all robot axes have come to a complete halt
  2. 2Visually inspect the safety gate, protective enclosure, and all interlock switches for obstruction or damage
  3. 3Confirm that the safety gate is fully closed and latched, then manually reset the safety circuit using the KUKA smartPAD
  4. 4Check the peripheral interface wiring and connectors at the KRC4 control cabinet to ensure secure connections with no visible damage
  5. 5Test the safety gate switch with a multimeter in the de-energized state to verify proper electrical continuity when closed
  6. 6Review the safety configuration in WorkVisual or the KRC4 system parameters to confirm correct input mapping and remove any safety signal noise or filtering issues
