KRC0018

KUKA Robot KRC0018 - Servobus DSE Unknown Participant

Servobus DSE Unknown Participant

The KRC controller has detected an unrecognized or improperly configured device on the SERVOBUS DSE (Drive System Extension) network during enumeration. This indicates a communication mismatch where the controller firmware expects specific servo drive modules but finds an unknown participant ID or device type. Motion is inhibited until the bus configuration matches the system definition.

Common Causes

  • Servo drive module hardware was replaced with a different firmware version or model type that does not match the configuration stored in the KRC system files
  • Corrupted or incorrect machine data file (*.mdb) loaded in WorkVisual that does not reflect the actual physical servo drives installed in the cabinet
  • SERVOBUS optical fiber cable damage or poor connection at the drive side or controller side causing data corruption during device identification handshake
  • Failed or partially failed servo drive that responds to enumeration requests with corrupted device ID or version information due to internal fault
  • Recent WorkVisual project modification where drive topology was changed but the project was not properly deployed or activated to the controller

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Navigate to Diagnosis > Servo Drives on the smartPAD and note which drive position shows as unknown or missing. Record the physical slot number and axis assignment.
  2. 2Step 2: Power down the controller completely, wait 30 seconds, then inspect the SERVOBUS fiber optic connections at both the KPP (KUKA Power Pack) and the suspect drive module for secure seating and clean connectors.
  3. 3Step 3: In WorkVisual, open the current project and navigate to Bus Configuration > SERVOBUS. Compare the configured drive list (type, firmware version, position) against the physical drives installed in the cabinet.
  4. 4Step 4: If a drive was recently replaced, verify the replacement drive has identical firmware version and hardware type. If not, update drive firmware via WorkVisual or replace with correct matching unit.
  5. 5Step 5: Check the machine data archive folder on the KRC for mismatched or recently restored configuration files. Reload the correct machine data package and perform a cold start with acknowledge all drives.
  6. 6Step 6: If the unknown participant alarm persists, isolate the suspect drive by disconnecting its SERVOBUS fiber link and restarting. If alarm clears, the drive electronics are faulty and require replacement. Contact KUKA service for drive exchange and reconfiguration.
