KUKA Robot KRC0020 - External Emergency Stop Pressed

External Emergency Stop Pressed

An external Emergency Stop device in the safety circuit has been activated or the safety loop continuity has been broken at a connection point outside the KRC4 cabinet. The dual-channel safety monitoring has detected at least one E-Stop button pressed, safety gate open, or light curtain interruption. Robot motion is halted and all servo drives are disabled with brakes applied.

Common Causes

  • Operator pressed mushroom-head Emergency Stop button on pendant, control panel, or cell perimeter station
  • Safety gate or access door interlock switch opened due to personnel entry or mechanical misalignment of gate position sensor
  • Light curtain, safety scanner, or area monitoring device triggered by object or person entering defined safety zone
  • Broken or disconnected wiring in external E-Stop series chain between multiple stations causing open circuit condition
  • External safety relay or contactor (customer-supplied) in the loop de-energized due to power loss or internal coil failure

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Physically inspect all visible Emergency Stop buttons around the cell to identify which device is mechanically latched in pressed position
  2. 2Step 2: Check status of all safety gates and access doors to verify they are fully closed and interlock switches are making proper contact
  3. 3Step 3: Review the smartPAD display for specific safety device identifier if system is configured with monitored E-Stop channels showing source location
  4. 4Step 4: Reset all latched E-Stop buttons by rotating mushroom heads clockwise and verify safety gate closure then press Acknowledge button on smartPAD
  5. 5Step 5: If alarm persists after reset use multimeter to trace 24VDC through external safety circuit measuring voltage drop across each E-Stop station in series
  6. 6Step 6: Check external safety relay panel for tripped relays or blown fuses in 24V safety supply and verify enabling switch on smartPAD is functional after full circuit reset
