KUKA Robot KRC0017 - Wrong or Unknown Hardware Found

Wrong or Unknown Hardware Found

The KRC4 controller boot sequence has detected hardware components that do not match the configuration stored in STEU.XML or the hardware identification differs from what the system firmware expects. This prevents the operating system from completing initialization because drive modules, I/O cards, or axis configuration cannot be validated. The controller remains in boot fault state.

Common Causes

  • Replacement KSP or KPP power module with different hardware revision not matching original configuration fingerprint in STEU.XML
  • Changed axis configuration such as adding or removing external axes without updating machine data in WorkVisual project
  • Defective RDC resolver interface card or PROFIBUS/EtherCAT I/O module returning incorrect identification code during enumeration
  • Corrupted CMOS battery causing loss of hardware registration data requiring re-initialization of controller serial number binding
  • Controller motherboard replacement where C2 card hardware ID does not match encrypted license files tied to original MAC address

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Power cycle the complete controller with main disconnect off for 30 seconds to reset hardware enumeration sequence
  2. 2Step 2: Boot into Service mode and check Startup -> Logbook for specific hardware module that failed identification check
  3. 3Step 3: Open WorkVisual and compare the loaded project hardware configuration against physical modules installed in control cabinet
  4. 4Step 4: Navigate to Startup -> Network configuration -> Hardware catalog to force re-scan and automatic detection of installed components
  5. 5Step 5: If recent hardware was replaced check that module firmware version is compatible by reviewing KSS version compatibility matrix in documentation
  6. 6Step 6: Contact KUKA support to regenerate hardware fingerprint file or update STEU.XML binding if motherboard or drive modules were legitimately replaced under service procedure
