HEIDENHAIN 280-0935 - Spindle angle unknown
Alarm 280-0935 occurs when the TNC control cannot determine the angular position of individual tool cutting edges, typically during rigid tapping or thread milling operations. This happens when spindle orientation feedback is missing or the tool's cutting edge geometry hasn't been properly defined in the tool table.

Root Cause Summary
Alarm 280-0935 occurs when the TNC control cannot determine the angular position of individual tool cutting edges, typically during rigid tapping or thread milling operations. This happens when spindle orientation feedback is missing or the tool's cutting edge geometry hasn't been properly defined in the tool table.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access tool table
Press TOOL TABLE key and navigate to the active tool number causing the alarm.
Check the status line to identify which tool number was active when alarm occurred
Verify cutting edge parameters
Check CUT column for number of cutting edges and ANGLE column for cutting edge angular spacing. For standard tools: 2-flute endmill = CUT:2, ANGLE:180.
Incorrect cutting edge data can cause tool breakage during synchronized operations
Update tool geometry
Enter correct values: CUT = actual number of cutting edges, ANGLE = 360°/number of edges. Press ENT to confirm each entry.
Use ANGLE = 0 for single-point tools or when edge orientation is not critical
Test spindle orientation
Execute M19 command in MDI mode to verify spindle can orient to specific angular positions before running program.
