Check Device Status LEDs

Examine the safety device for status indicators. Red or flashing LEDs typically indicate hardware failure.

Do not bypass safety devices - machine must remain in safe state during diagnosis

Verify Device Power Supply

Check 24V DC supply to the safety device using multimeter. Voltage should be stable within ±10% tolerance.

Check for voltage drops under load - intermittent power issues cause communication timeouts

Replace Safety Device

Inspect Safety Bus Cables

Use multimeter to verify continuity on all safety bus wires. Check for shorts between conductors and to ground.

Power down safety system before performing continuity tests

Verify Bus Termination

Ensure safety bus has proper 120-ohm termination resistors at both ends of the network segment.

Missing termination causes signal reflections leading to intermittent communication errors

Access Safety Configuration

Navigate to MOD function, select 'Safety' and review configured safety devices. Verify device ID matches physical device.

Device serial number in alarm message must match configured device in safety project

Check Communication Parameters

Verify safety bus communication settings including baud rate, node addressing, and timeout values in machine parameters.

Incorrect safety parameters can disable safety functions - validate all changes

Reload Safety Project

If configuration appears corrupted, reload the safety project from backup or recreate device configuration.

Always backup working safety configuration before making changes

Check Cable Routing

Verify safety bus cables are routed away from power cables, drive cables, and high-current conductors with minimum 200mm separation.

Safety cables should cross power cables at 90-degree angles only when necessary

Verify Cable Shielding

Ensure safety bus cable shields are properly connected to ground at control cabinet entry point only.

Double-ended shield grounding can create ground loops and increase EMI susceptibility

Install EMI Filters

Add ferrite cores or EMI filters to safety bus cables if interference persists. Use filters rated for safety applications.
