HEIDENHAIN 231-A810 - A810 CC limit switch

A810 CC limit switch

This TNC 640 error indicates the axis has exceeded its permitted travel range. The control has detected a software limit switch violation.

Root Cause Summary

The A810 alarm is triggered when the control detects an axis position that violates the negative software limit switch configured in CfgAxisTravRange machine parameters. This is a protective function to prevent mechanical overtravel and requires either repositioning the axis within limits or adjusting the machine parameter configuration if the physical machine travel range differs from the programmed values.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Identify affected axis and position

Read the alarm message to identify which axis (%1 parameter shows axis name). Check Position Display (Status > Positions) to see current axis coordinates.

  2. 2

    Check configured traverse range

Press MOD key > Machine Parameters > Search for 'CfgAxisTravRange' > Select the affected axis > Review maxNegTravRange value. This defines the negative limit.

  3. 3

Clear alarm and jog axis to safe position

Press CE key to acknowledge alarm. Switch to Manual mode and carefully jog the affected axis in positive direction away from the limit switch boundary.

Ensure no mechanical obstructions exist before jogging axis. Use reduced feed rate override for initial movement.

  4. 4

    Verify reference point validity

Navigate to Manual mode > Datum Set soft key > Check if reference point markers (R) are displayed for all axes. If missing, perform Reference Point Search sequence per machine manufacturer procedure.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator authority
  • ·Encoder replacement needed
  • ·Multiple axes affected simultaneously

Prevention

  • Perform regular reference point checks
  • Monitor encoder diagnostic values during PM
  • Maintain clean limit switch areas
  • Backup machine parameters regularly

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual reference point drift
  • Adjusting software limits without understanding mechanical limits
  • Not checking encoder cables during routine maintenance
  • Assuming all A810 alarms have same root cause
