HEIDENHAIN 230-04A4 - Configuration of handwheel on axis is faulty

Configuration of handwheel on axis is faulty

This TNC7/TNC 640 error indicates an issue with 230-04A4. Connections were configured that are not available on this CC.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by inconsistencies in the machine parameter configuration for handwheel-to-axis mapping on Heidenhain TNC controls. The control detects that the configured handwheel assignment for the specified axis does not comply with the expected configuration structure, either due to parameter entry errors, corrupted configuration data, or mismatch between software configuration and hardware capabilities.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Machine Parameters

Press MOD key (if enabled), enter code, navigate to All Parameters > Handwheel section, or directly access MP7210 parameters. On locked systems, contact machine builder for MOD access.

Modifying machine parameters requires authorization and can affect machine safety. Document all original values before making changes.

  2. 2

    Review MP7210.x Assignments

Check MP7210.0, MP7210.1, MP7210.2 for each handwheel. Each parameter contains a bitwise axis assignment (e.g., bit 0=X, bit 1=Y, bit 2=Z). Verify axis %2 from the alarm message has a single, valid assignment without duplication across handwheels.

    MP7210.0 corresponds to HR1, MP7210.1 to HR2, etc. Value is decimal representation of binary bits: X=1, Y=2, Z=4, A=8, B=16, C=32. For X+Y+Z access, enter 7 (1+2+4).

  3. 3

    Correct Assignment and Reboot

If axis assignment is incorrect, modify the appropriate MP7210.x parameter to include the axis bit. Save parameters and perform a control reboot (Ctrl+Alt+Del on TNC640, or power cycle on older controls) to activate changes.

Control reboot will terminate any active machining program. Ensure machine is in safe state before rebooting.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware replacement required
  • ·Parameter backup/restore needed
  • ·Multiple related alarms persist

Prevention

  • Document CC model and capabilities before parameter changes
  • Backup machine parameters before hardware modifications
  • Verify handwheel specifications match TNC requirements

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming all CC models have same I/O capabilities
  • Not updating parameters after hardware changes
  • Setting MP7500 beyond available axis range
