HEIDENHAIN 230-04B7 - Error in configuration of axis

Error in configuration of axis

The axis configuration has errors in supply module, power stage, or related parameters.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is fundamentally a machine parameter consistency check failure specific to axis configuration. The TNC control's internal parameter validation has detected that one or more axis-related machine parameters contain invalid values, conflicting settings, or missing required configuration data that prevents proper axis initialization. This is almost always resolved by correcting the specific MP entries for the affected axis.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Machine Parameter Tables

Press MOD key, enter machine parameter password, navigate to General > Machine Parameters to access MP tables.

Ensure machine is in a safe state and motion is disabled before modifying machine parameters.

  2. 2

    Verify MP100 Axis Assignment

Check MP100 (Axis Assignment) for the affected axis. Verify bit coding is correct: Bit 0-2 define axis type (0=linear, 1=rotary modulo, 2=rotary shortest path, etc.). Ensure the value matches your machine's actual axis configuration.

MP100 uses bit-coded values - use the TNC help function (HELP key) while in the parameter field to see the bit definitions.

  3. 3

    Check MP101 Axis Names

Review MP101 (Axis Names) to ensure each axis has a unique, valid name (X, Y, Z, A, B, C, U, V, W). Check that no duplicate axis names exist and that special characters are not present.

Axis names must follow Heidenhain conventions - use only standard axis letters, and ensure rotary axes are properly designated as A, B, or C.

  4. 4

    Verify Channel Assignment

Cross-reference MP100 and MP101 with the physical axis channel connections. Ensure the logical axis configuration matches the actual CNC channel and drive topology.

Document the original settings before making changes - use MOD > Data Transfer to save a backup of machine parameters.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes don't resolve alarm
  • ·Encoder hardware replacement needed
  • ·Servo amplifier configuration required

Prevention

  • Regular parameter backup
  • Document all configuration changes
  • Verify encoder cable integrity during maintenance

Common Mistakes

  • Changing multiple parameters simultaneously
  • Not backing up working configuration
  • Ignoring encoder signal quality warnings
