HEIDENHAIN 230-0497 - Incorrect inverter or motor connection (, inv., motor)

Incorrect inverter or motor connection (, inv., motor)

The inverter or motor connection is misconfigured. The specified interface may not exist, no inverter is connected, or the motor connector is wrong.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when the TNC control's drive system detects an incompatibility between the configured inverter power stage and the motor parameters. The drive controller cannot safely operate because the electrical matching between power module and motor is incorrect or undefined, typically due to configuration errors, wrong motor assignment, or failed motor identification.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Drive Configuration in MOD

Power on in Service Mode, press MOD key, navigate to 'Drive System' or 'Motor Configuration' menu. Identify the axis/spindle and inverter/motor numbers from the alarm text.

Document existing settings before making changes. Incorrect motor parameters can cause dangerous motor behavior.

  2. 2

    Verify Motor Nameplate Data

Check physical motor nameplate for rated voltage, current, power, pole pairs, and encoder type. Compare these values with the parameters in MOD > Motor Parameters for the affected motor number.

For synchronous motors, pay special attention to pole pair count - this is critical for commutation and often misconfigured during motor replacement.

  3. 3

    Correct Motor Configuration Parameters

In MOD function, enter correct values for motor type, rated current, rated voltage, pole pairs, encoder type, and thermal monitoring parameters to match motor nameplate.

Heidenhain motors typically have configuration data on a label or in documentation - use exact values rather than estimating.

  4. 4

    Save Configuration and Test

Save the corrected motor parameters in MOD, perform a complete controller restart (power cycle), and verify alarm clears. Test axis motion at low feedrate (10%) initially.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Control unit hardware failure suspected
  • ·Multiple inverter modules failing
  • ·Electrical safety concerns during diagnostics

Prevention

  • Regularly inspect inverter module connections for looseness
  • Keep spare inverter modules for critical axes
  • Document all MP_inverterInterface and MP_motorConnector settings
  • Perform periodic communication cable continuity checks

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing inverter socket numbers with axis numbers
  • Not powering down control when moving inverter connections
  • Forgetting to restart control after parameter changes
  • Mixing up MP_inverterInterface and MP_motorConnector parameters
