HEIDENHAIN 230-01B0 - Error in spindle positioning

Error in spindle positioning

A spindle-positioning move did not finish correctly. The most common cause is that the M19 maximum speed parameter is set too low.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when the spindle cannot complete an M19 oriented stop within the configured monitoring window. The root cause is typically either improper machine parameter configuration (especially timeout and tolerance values), mechanical issues preventing precise positioning, or feedback system problems with the spindle encoder that prevent the control from accurately measuring spindle position.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access spindle monitoring parameters

Navigate to MOD function (press MOD key) → Machine Parameters → enter filter '1260' to locate MP1260 SPIND. POSITIONING TIME

Typical values range from 2-10 seconds depending on spindle mass and drive performance

  2. 2

    Check current timeout value

Review MP1260 current setting. If less than 3 seconds on larger spindles or less than 1 second on smaller spindles, value is likely insufficient

Note the current value before making changes - document original machine parameters

  3. 3

    Perform test orientation

In MDI mode, execute M19 command and use stopwatch to measure actual positioning time. MP1260 should be set to 150-200% of measured time

Add 1-2 seconds buffer to account for variations in load and starting position

  4. 4

    Adjust MP1260 if necessary

Increase MP1260 value incrementally (add 2-3 seconds). Power cycle control or execute 'Reset All' from positioning menu to activate new parameter

Parameter changes require machine manufacturer authorization - verify warranty implications

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Drive amplifier failure confirmed
  • ·Complex PLC programming changes needed

Prevention

  • Regular spindle bearing maintenance
  • Periodic encoder cable inspection
  • Monitor positioning accuracy trends
  • Keep spindle parameters backed up

Common Mistakes

  • Adjusting tolerance too tight
  • Ignoring intermittent encoder signals
  • Not checking mechanical binding first
  • Modifying parameters without documentation
