HEIDENHAIN 221-0075 - Faulty kinematics configuration

Faulty kinematics configuration

The current kinematic model contains an invalid CfgKinToolSocket insertion point for a tool-carrier sub-model. The bad entry is shown in the error details.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by the TNC's internal validation routines detecting an invalid or incomplete kinematic model definition. The control cannot calculate transformation matrices for coordinate conversions between workpiece coordinate system and machine coordinate system with the given parameters. Resolution requires correcting the kinematic parameter definitions to create a mathematically valid and physically consistent machine model.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Kinematic Parameters

Press MOD key → Machine Parameters → select 'All Parameters' filter → navigate to MP71600 series (Kinematic Configuration)

Document current values before making changes - use PLC backup function or photograph each screen

  2. 2

    Verify Rotary Axis Geometry

Check MP71660-MP71669 for each rotary axis (A, B, C). Verify center point coordinates and pivot vectors are non-zero and match machine mechanical design specifications from manufacturer

Incorrect center point definitions will cause collision risk even if alarm clears

  3. 3

    Validate Kinematic Chain

Review MP71600 (kinematic model type: 0=standard, 1=tilting table, 2=swivel head, etc.). Ensure subsequent MP71601-MP71605 match the selected model type with correct axis assignments

For 5-axis machines, the sequence in MP71601-71605 defines transformation order - must match physical machine architecture

  4. 4

    Test Kinematic Validity

After corrections, perform control restart (emergency stop while holding MOD key for clean boot). Verify alarm clears and test with simple rotary movement in Manual mode

Always test at reduced feedrate (F100-500) after kinematic changes to verify correct transformation behavior

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Kinematic backup restoration fails
  • ·Machine geometry verification required
  • ·Multiple kinematic alarms persist

Prevention

  • Always backup kinematic configurations before modifications
  • Document all parameter changes with timestamps
  • Validate kinematic models in simulation before activation

Common Mistakes

  • Editing kinematic parameters without understanding chain structure
  • Not backing up configurations before TNC updates
  • Ignoring kinematic validation warnings during setup
