HEIDENHAIN 1A0-00D2 - No translation axis is parallel to the cylinder reference axis

No translation axis is parallel to the cylinder reference axis

During cylinder interpolation setup, none of the linear axes runs parallel to the cylinder reference axis. The working plane or cylinder orientation is likely misaligned.

Root Cause Summary

The TNC control cannot execute cylindrical surface transformation because the current coordinate system configuration does not provide a linear translation axis that runs parallel to the defined cylinder rotational axis. This occurs either due to incorrect cycle parameters, active coordinate transformations that have tilted the working plane, or improper machine kinematic parameter configuration that does not reflect the actual machine geometry.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check transformation status

Press MOD key, check status display for active transformations. Look for 'PLANE' or 'CYC19' indicators in the coordinate system status area of the TNC display.

The status bar at bottom of screen shows transformation icons - a tilted plane symbol indicates active spatial rotation.

  2. 2

    Cancel active transformations

Program 'PLANE RESET' or 'CYCL DEF 19.0 WORKING PLANE' with zero parameters to deactivate tilting. Alternatively, use M02 or M30 program end to reset transformations if permitted by machine parameter MP7160.

Ensure tool is at safe position before resetting transformations as coordinate system will change.

  3. 3

    Re-establish cylinder surface cycle

After transformation reset, re-program Cycle 27 CYLINDER SURFACE with correct parameters. Verify in Test Run or graphical simulation that the cycle executes without alarm.

Use single-block mode for first execution after transformation changes to verify proper axis movements.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Machine parameter kinematics require modification
  • ·Rotary axis hardware alignment issues suspected

Prevention

  • Always use PLANE RESET before cylindrical interpolation
  • Verify TURNDATA axis matches machine configuration
  • Test cylindrical programs in single block mode first

Common Mistakes

  • Using PLANE SPATIAL with cylindrical interpolation
  • Incorrect rotary axis letter in TURNDATA
  • Forgetting active coordinate transformations
