HEIDENHAIN 1A0-00B7 - Specified axis does not lie on "ToolSide"!

Specified axis does not lie on "ToolSide"!

The axis specified in the command is located on the workpiece side of the kinematic chain rather than the tool side. The control requires the axis to be on the tool side for this operation.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates a fundamental mismatch between the control's kinematic model and physical machine configuration. The TNC has detected that an axis required for the active transformation is configured as being on the workpiece side when it must be on the tool side for the kinematic calculation to function properly.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Machine Parameters

Press MOD key, enter machine manufacturer password, navigate to 'All' or 'CfgAxes' section to access MP7500 series parameters.

Incorrect machine parameters can cause collision or unexpected machine behavior. Document current settings before changes.

  2. 2

    Review MP7500.x Settings

Check MP7500.0 through MP7500.x for each rotary axis. Bit 0 = 0 means workpiece side, Bit 0 = 1 means tool side. Identify which rotary axes are involved in your transformation.

MP7500 uses axis index numbers, not names. Verify axis index assignments in MP100 through MP109 first.

  3. 3

    Correct Carrier Assignment

For the rotary axis causing the alarm, modify MP7500.x bit 0 to assign it to the tool side (set bit 0 = 1). This must match physical machine construction.

Only change this if the axis is physically mounted on the tool-carrying spindle head. Incorrect assignment will cause transformation errors.

  4. 4

    Restart Control

Exit MOD function and perform a control restart (PLC SYSSTART) for machine parameter changes to take effect fully.

After restart, verify settings with FUNCTION TCPM TEST or manual movement in transformed mode before automatic operation.

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Machine parameter changes required
  • ·Kinematic file corruption suspected
  • ·Hardware communication faults detected

Prevention

  • Regular backup of kinematic configuration files
  • Avoid unauthorized machine parameter modifications
  • Implement proper 5-axis programming standards

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing tool-side vs workpiece-side axis assignments
  • Modifying kinematic parameters without proper documentation
  • Using incorrect rotary axis nomenclature in programming
