HEIDENHAIN 1A0-00E6 - Orientation not possible

Orientation not possible

An NC command attempted to orient a spindle, but the current machine configuration does not include a spindle axis. Without one, spindle orientation is impossible.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates the control's kinematic transformation engine cannot compute a valid machine axis position to achieve the programmed tool orientation. The root cause is either a geometrically impossible orientation request, incorrect kinematic model configuration, or physical axis limits preventing the calculated rotary axis positions from being reached.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Identify the failing PLANE command

Locate the exact NC block triggering the alarm. Note the PLANE function type (SPATIAL/VECTOR/PROJECTED) and all parameter values (SPA/SPB/SPO or X/Y/Z vectors).

Use SINGLE BLOCK mode and position cursor at PLANE command - alarm will trigger at block start before motion begins.

  2. 2

    Check rotary axis software limits

Access machine parameters MP3602.x (axis A), MP3603.x (axis B), MP3604.x (axis C). Compare software limits against required rotary positions for the programmed orientation.

Calculate expected rotary positions manually or use Test Run simulation with 'show axis positions' to see calculated A/B/C values before alarm.

  3. 3

    Verify kinematic model configuration

Check MP7500.0 (kinematics type), MP7502.x (rotary axis assignment), MP7510.x (geometry distances). Ensure configuration matches actual machine head/table design.

Incorrect MP7500 series parameters can cause permanent orientation calculation errors - document original values before changes.

  4. 4

    Modify PLANE orientation angles

If orientation is at or near ±90° on swivel axis, try alternative orientation angles (use SPA +/- adjustment or modify CAM post-processor solution preference). Test with SEQ +/- increments.

For head/head kinematics, B-axis values near ±90° create singularities - stay within ±85° if possible.

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required
  • ·PLC programming needed
  • ·Hardware interface issues
  • ·Safety system integration required

Prevention

  • Regular backup of machine parameters
  • Document all spindle configuration changes
  • Verify spindle parameters after control software updates
  • Test orientation function during preventive maintenance

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming spindle is configured when only basic rotation works
  • Forgetting control restart after parameter changes
  • Mixing up spindle interface types in parameters
  • Not verifying PLC program supports orientation function
