HEIDENHAIN 140-002F - General key expired

General key expired

The master keyword used to unlock all options during commissioning has expired after its 90-day period. Options now require individual activation codes.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by the control's license management system detecting an expired authorization key for software options or features. Heidenhain controls use time-based licensing for certain advanced functions, and when the validity period expires, the control blocks access to those features. The key must be renewed or replaced through proper Heidenhain licensing channels.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check installed software keys

Press MOD key, navigate to Software Options > Key Information. Review the list of installed keys and note the expiration dates. Identify which key shows 'Expired' status.

Document the key ID number and option name exactly as shown - you'll need this information when contacting Heidenhain for renewal.

  2. 2

    Verify system date accuracy

Go to MOD > System Settings > Date/Time. Confirm the system date is correct. If the date was accidentally set forward, the key may have been invalidated prematurely.

Never set the system date backward to circumvent key expiration - this can corrupt the license database and cause additional alarms.

  3. 3

    Contact Heidenhain for license renewal

Contact Heidenhain Technical Support or your authorized service representative with the control serial number (visible in MOD > System Information) and expired key ID to request a renewed license.

Have your purchase order or original machine documentation ready - license renewals may require proof of original purchase or active service contract.

  4. 4

    Load renewed license key

Once you receive the new license file (.KEY or .XML format) on USB stick, insert USB into control. Go to MOD > Software Options > Load Key File and select the new license file. Confirm loading and reboot the control.

Always keep a backup copy of all license key files on your facility's server or secure storage location.
