HEIDENHAIN 140-0033 - Job cannot run

Job cannot run

The configuration server could not execute a job. Additional log entries may contain more specific information about the failure.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates the control's job scheduler cannot execute a requested PLC background task due to timing conflicts, resource unavailability, or programming errors within the job itself. The root cause typically lies in either improper job configuration with execution time exceeding cycle time, or programming errors preventing the job from running to completion and releasing resources for the next cycle.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access PLC Error Log

Press MOD function key, select 'System Information' > 'PLC' > 'Error Log' to view detailed job execution times and which specific job is failing.

Look for the job name and timestamp pattern - if timestamps show regular intervals matching your cycle time, this confirms timing overrun.

  2. 2

    Check Job Execution Statistics

In PLC programming environment (PlcProgramDesigner or TNCopt), open Job Monitor to view actual vs. configured execution times for all cyclic jobs.

Maximum execution time should not exceed 70-80% of cycle interval to allow for system overhead and variations.

  3. 3

    Optimize PLC Code

Review the failing job's program code for inefficient loops, excessive calculations, or unnecessary wait states. Break complex jobs into smaller sub-jobs if needed.

Always backup PLC program before making modifications using MOD > 'Data Management' > 'Backup PLC'.

  4. 4

    Adjust Cycle Time

If code cannot be optimized further, increase the job's cycle time parameter in the PLC job configuration table to allow adequate execution time.

For non-critical background tasks, cycle times of 100-500ms are typical; critical servo-related jobs may need 5-20ms cycles.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Drive hardware replacement required
  • ·Encoder replacement needed
  • ·Network infrastructure issues
  • ·Persistent system resource problems after restart

Prevention

  • Regularly backup servo parameters and system configuration
  • Monitor system resource usage during operation
  • Perform periodic encoder signal quality checks
  • Maintain clean and secure drive communication cables

Common Mistakes

  • Modifying servo parameters during active machining
  • Ignoring encoder signal quality degradation
  • Not clearing job queue before troubleshooting
  • Attempting parameter changes without proper backup
