Haas 121 - LOW LUBE OR LOW PRESSURE | Haas CNC Alarm

LOW LUBE OR LOW PRESSURE

This alarm indicates the automatic lubrication system pressure switch has detected insufficient hydraulic pressure in the way lube system or the oil reservoir level is too low. The IOCON board monitors the pressure switch input and will prevent machine motion to avoid running the linear guides and ballscrews without proper lubrication, which would cause accelerated wear and potential seizure.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 121 occurs when the NGC control commands the lube pump to run but doesn't receive pressure confirmation from the lube pressure switch within the timeout period set by Parameter 222. The control monitors this signal during each automatic lube cycle and will halt all axis motion to prevent damage to unlubricated guideways and ballscrews.

Safety

  • Damage if run dry

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Oil Level

Open electrical cabinet and visually inspect the lube oil reservoir tank. Oil level should be between MIN and MAX marks on sight gauge.

Ensure machine is powered down and locked out before opening electrical cabinet

  2. 2

    Refill Reservoir

If low, refill with Haas-approved way oil (typically ISO 68 viscosity). Fill to MAX line but do not overfill.

Use only Haas P/N 93-32-5051 or equivalent ISO 68 way oil to prevent viscosity-related pump issues

  3. 3

    Prime Pump System

Power up machine and manually trigger lube cycle from CURRENT COMMANDS > COOLNT/LUBE menu to verify pressure builds properly.

Listen for pump motor operation and watch for pressure switch activation LED if visible

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Electrical wiring issues found
  • ·Multiple failed components suspected

Prevention

  • Check lube oil level weekly during daily inspection
  • Replace lube oil annually or per maintenance schedule
  • Keep distribution lines clear of debris and avoid over-tightening clamps

Common Mistakes

  • Using wrong viscosity oil
  • Overfilling reservoir causing pump cavitation
  • Setting Parameter 222 timeout too high defeating safety protection
  • Ignoring gradual pressure build time increases indicating system wear
