Fanuc Alarm PS033 - Cutter Compensation Error

NO INTERSECTION AT G41/G42

Fanuc alarm PS033: NO INTERSECTION AT G41/G42. The part program or machine configuration has an error related to this alarm condition. Review the block indicated in the alarm screen and correct the command per the Fanuc programming manual.

Root Cause Summary

PS033 occurs when the CNC cannot calculate a valid tool path during cutter radius compensation (G41/G42) execution. This typically happens when the programmed geometry creates impossible tool center paths, such as internal corners smaller than the tool radius, consecutive blocks that create interference, or inadequate move distances relative to the compensation value.

Safety

  • Verify tool path before running

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press OFFSET key and verify the active offset number called by D code in the program. Check the actual radius value in the geometry offset table (not wear offset) to confirm it matches the physical tool radius.

  2. 2

Review the programmed path geometry at the alarm location. Measure internal corners, slot widths, and arc radii. Verify all internal features are larger than 2x the tool radius (diameter clearance).

  3. 3

If geometry cannot be changed, reduce the offset value in the geometry offset table or use a smaller diameter tool. Re-run program from a safe position before the compensation start block.

  4. 4

Check parameter 5004 (C.COMP TYPE) - standard setting is 1. If set to 0 (type A compensation), change to 1 (type C) for better handling of tight corners, then reset and test program.

Changing compensation type may affect all programs using cutter comp. Verify with proven programs first.
