Fanuc Alarm PS041 - Cutter Compensation Interference

INTERFERENCE IN G41/G42

Fanuc alarm PS041: INTERFERENCE IN G41/G42. The part program or machine configuration has an error related to this alarm condition. Review the block indicated in the alarm screen and correct the command per the Fanuc programming manual.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc PS041 occurs when the CNC detects a geometric interference condition during cutter radius compensation (G41/G42) execution. The tool center path calculation results in an overcutting condition where the compensated tool path would cause the tool to gouge into previously cut material or cross over itself, violating safe machining geometry.

Safety

  • Interference can cause gouging

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the program block displayed with PS041. Check parameters 5003-5007 (compensation mode settings) to verify compensation type (G41/G42 direction) matches intended tool path.

  2. 2

Verify tool offset value in OFFSET SETTING > WORK ZERO OFFSET screen. Compare H or D offset value against the minimum corner radius in the programmed geometry - tool radius must be smaller than internal corner radii.

  3. 3

Modify program geometry to add corner chamfers or radii larger than the tool radius, or reduce tool diameter/offset value. Alternatively, split sharp corners into multiple G01 blocks with intermediate points.

Changing geometry affects part dimensions - verify with part drawing requirements

  4. 4

Test program in single block mode (SINGLE BLOCK button) with feedrate override at 5-10% to verify compensation path calculation resolves without PS041 reoccurrence.
