Fanuc Alarm PS044 - Reference Return in Fixed Cycle
PS044 alarm occurs when a reference return or positioning command (G27, G28, G29, or G30) is programmed within an active fixed cycle modal group (G73, G74, G76, G80-G89). The CNC cannot execute machine coordinate system positioning commands while a canned drilling/tapping cycle is active, as this creates a modal conflict in the G-code interpreter.

Causes and Fixes
Review program at alarm line. Press RESET, then navigate to EDIT mode and examine the block where PS044 occurred. Look for G28/G30 commands following G73-G89 without intervening G80.
Insert G80 (cancel canned cycle) on a separate block before the G27/G28/G29/G30 command. Example: Change 'N100 G83 Z-50. R5. Q5. F100 / N110 G28 Z0' to 'N100 G83 Z-50. R5. Q5. F100 / N105 G80 / N110 G28 Z0'.
Verify parameter 3405 bit 0 (G28/G30 behavior) is set correctly. Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM > search 3405. Bit 0=0 allows intermediate positioning, bit 0=1 is strict mode. Standard setting is bit 0=0.
Re-run program in single block mode (press SINGLE BLOCK button) to verify G80 cancellation occurs before reference return commands execute.
