Fanuc Alarm PS0153 - Tool Number Not in Magazine

Tool Not Found

Fanuc PS0153: Tool Not Found. A tool management or tool life management fault has been detected. The tool data, group assignment, or tool life status has an error that prevents execution.

Root Cause Summary

PS0153 occurs when the CNC attempts to execute a tool change (M06 or ATC command) for a tool number that is not registered in the tool magazine data table. This indicates a mismatch between the commanded tool number in the NC program and the tools currently registered in the magazine management system parameters or PMC tool data.

Safety

  • Tool change will fail

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PMC > PMCPRM > DATA TABLE or SYSTEM > PARAM > ATC to view magazine registration. Check if the requested tool number exists in the magazine table (typically parameters 13200-13231 series for magazine pot assignment or PMC D-register based tables).

  2. 2

Access the tool magazine screen (SYSTEM > ATC or custom OEM screen) to verify tool pot assignments. Ensure the tool number matches exactly what is called in the NC program (T-code).

  3. 3

If tool is physically present but not registered, update magazine data through the ATC registration screen or by editing PMC keep relay data (typically K900-K999 range depending on machine builder). Register tool number to correct pot number.

Ensure machine is in EMERGENCY STOP before manually editing magazine data to prevent unexpected ATC operations.

  4. 4

After updating magazine data, perform a magazine origin search or tool pot recount via PMC function (typically G311 or machine builder-specific M-code) to synchronize physical magazine position with CNC data.
