Fanuc 568 - Spindle position sensor error

SPINDLE POSITION SENSOR ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 568: SPINDLE POSITION SENSOR ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 568 indicates the spindle control system cannot properly detect or read the spindle motor's position feedback signal. This is typically caused by a faulty position sensor (encoder/resolver), damaged sensor cable, loose connections, or contamination on the sensor components preventing accurate position detection required for spindle orientation and rigid tapping.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine and lockout/tagout. Inspect the encoder cable from the spindle motor to the spindle drive unit for physical damage, cuts, or oil contamination.

Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures before accessing electrical connections.

  2. 2

Check all connector pins at both the motor encoder end and the spindle amplifier end for bent pins, corrosion, or debris. Firmly reseat all connections.

  3. 3

Measure cable continuity between motor and amplifier using a multimeter. Check for shorts between signal lines and ground. Replace cable if any faults are found.

  4. 4

If cable and connections are good, monitor the encoder feedback signals (A, B, Z phases) on the amplifier diagnostics screen during manual spindle rotation to verify proper signal generation.
