Fanuc 564 - Spindle current sensor error

SPINDLE CURRENT SENSOR ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 564: SPINDLE CURRENT SENSOR ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 564 indicates the spindle amplifier is not receiving proper current feedback signals from the spindle motor's current sensor circuit. This typically results from faulty current sensing circuitry in the spindle amplifier, damaged feedback cables between the motor and drive, or a failing spindle motor with internal current sensor issues.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power off the machine and lock out. Inspect all cables between the spindle motor and spindle drive unit for physical damage, oil contamination, or wear at flex points.

Verify zero voltage before handling any cables or connections.

  2. 2

Check all connector pins at both the spindle motor encoder/sensor connector and the amplifier side for bent pins, corrosion, or loose retention. Clean connectors with electrical contact cleaner if contamination is present.

  3. 3

Perform continuity test on the current sensor feedback lines using the spindle drive manual wiring diagram. Check for opens, shorts to ground, or shorts between signal pairs.

  4. 4

If cable damage is found, replace the spindle motor power/feedback cable assembly. Ensure proper cable routing and strain relief to prevent future failures. Verify proper shielding termination.
