Fanuc Alarm 356 - COMPOSITE CONTROL CANNOT BE USED WHILE AXIS MOVING

FANUC ALARM 356

While the axis being subject to composite control was moving, an attempt was made to start or cancel composite control.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 356 occurs when composite control (tandem/synchronous axis control) is commanded to engage or disengage while one or more axes involved in the composite control group are still in motion. The control system requires all axes to be stationary before switching composite control modes to prevent synchronization errors and potential mechanical damage.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the NC program at the point of alarm occurrence. Check for G150, G151, or other composite control activation/deactivation codes and verify that G04 dwell or M00/M01 stop commands precede the composite control command to ensure axis settling.

  2. 2

Navigate to SYSTEM > DIAGNOSIS screen and check diagnosis numbers 300-303 (axis load meter) and 400-403 (servo position deviation) for the composite axes to confirm motion has stopped and in-position status is achieved.

  3. 3

Check parameters 1826#0-#7 (in-position check width) and parameter 1827 (in-position check time). If values are too tight, the system may not recognize the axis as stopped. Typical values are 1826=10-50 (0.01mm units) and 1827=100-250ms.

  4. 4

Add a G04 P1000 (1 second dwell) or M00 stop command immediately before the composite control activation/deactivation command in the NC program to ensure complete axis deceleration and in-position confirmation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Servo tuning required
  • ·Mechanical binding suspected
  • ·PLC programming changes needed

Prevention

  • Always use exact stop (G09) before composite control commands
  • Implement proper dwell times in programs
  • Regular servo tuning maintenance
  • Monitor following error trends

Common Mistakes

  • Not allowing sufficient settling time before composite control
  • Incorrect in-position window parameters
  • Mixing manual and automatic axis control
  • Poor program sequencing of motion and M-codes
