Fanuc Alarm 361 - n AXIS: ABNORMAL PHASE DATA (INT)

SYSTEM ALARM 361

Fanuc alarm 361: SYSTEM ALARM 361. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 361 indicates the servo amplifier has detected abnormal phase signal data from the built-in pulse coder (serial encoder) on the specified axis motor. This typically results from encoder hardware failure, contaminated encoder signals due to cable damage or noise interference, or incorrect encoder-to-amplifier communication setup.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power off the machine. Inspect the serial pulse coder cable (gray/white cable) from the motor to the amplifier JF2 connector. Check for cuts, pinches, oil contamination, or damaged connectors. Verify cable shield continuity and proper grounding.

Always power off before disconnecting encoder cables to prevent damage to amplifier encoder interface circuits.

  2. 2

Swap the suspect axis cable with a known good axis cable if available. Power on and jog both axes. If alarm follows the cable, replace the cable. If alarm stays with original axis, proceed to step 3.

  3. 3

Check servo amplifier diagnostics: Navigate to DIAGNOSIS > SERVO > select affected axis. Monitor diagnostic numbers 300-305 (encoder feedback values) and 400 (serial pulse coder alarm detail). Record any abnormal values or additional alarm codes displayed.

  4. 4

If cable is confirmed good, the motor pulse coder is likely defective. Replace the servo motor or have the encoder unit replaced. After replacement, execute parameter initialization and perform serial pulse coder setup (parameter 1815 bit settings) and run automatic offset adjustment if required by motor type.

Encoder replacement requires recalibration. Back up all parameters and position data before motor replacement.

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Servo amplifier replacement needed
  • ·Multiple axes showing same alarm

Prevention

  • Regular encoder cable inspection
  • Proper cable routing away from power lines
  • Maintain clean environment around motors
  • Periodic parameter backup

Common Mistakes

  • Grounding encoder shield at both ends
  • Using incorrect encoder resolution parameter
  • Running encoder cables with power cables
  • Not checking cable continuity before replacing encoder
