Fanuc Alarm 154 - NOT USING TOOL IN LIFE GROUP

ILLEGAL USE OF H99/D99

The H99 command, D99 command, or the H/D code set by parameters 13265 and 13266 was specified when no tool belonging to a group is in use.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 154 occurs when the program executes H99, D99, or specific H/D codes defined in parameters 13265/13266 to reset tool life group data, but no tool from any life management group is currently active in the spindle. The CNC cannot apply group life management commands without an active tool belonging to a monitored group.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > TOOL LIFE MANAGEMENT screen. Verify the current T-code tool number is registered in a tool life group and confirm group status shows tool as member.

  2. 2

Check the part program sequence before alarm point. Confirm a valid tool call (M06 with T-code) executed prior to H99/D99 command, and that tool number matches an entry in tool life data table.

  3. 3

Review parameters 13201-13204 (tool life management enable bits) to verify tool life management is properly enabled for the control configuration and matches the programming intent.

  4. 4

If tool should be in group, add the tool to appropriate life group via TOOL LIFE MANAGEMENT > REGIST screen, or remove H99/D99 command if group management not required for this operation.

Modifying tool life groups affects production tracking. Coordinate with process engineering before changes.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Tool life management system completely non-functional
  • ·Repeated alarms after following all diagnostic steps

Prevention

  • Always use proper T code + M06 sequence before H99/D99 commands
  • Maintain consistent tool life group assignments
  • Verify tool life table integrity during setup
  • Include tool confirmation blocks at program restart points

Common Mistakes

  • Using H99/D99 without preceding tool call
  • Assuming tool is active without verification
  • Incorrect parameter 13265/13266 settings
  • Restarting programs without establishing tool context
