Fanuc Alarm 158 - TOOL LIFE VALUE OUT OF RANGE
Alarm 158 occurs when a tool life management value (group life, tool life count, or life counter) exceeds the allowable range defined by Fanuc system parameters. This typically happens during program execution with G10 L3 or H-code tool life commands, or during manual data input (MDI) when setting tool life values that are beyond the maximum permitted by parameter 6800 series settings.

Root Cause Summary
Alarm 158 occurs when a tool life management value (group life, tool life count, or life counter) exceeds the allowable range defined by Fanuc system parameters. This typically happens during program execution with G10 L3 or H-code tool life commands, or during manual data input (MDI) when setting tool life values that are beyond the maximum permitted by parameter 6800 series settings.
Causes and Fixes
Review the NC program line causing the alarm. Check for G10 L3 P_ L_ (tool life setting) or H-code tool life registration commands. Verify the L-address value is within acceptable range.
Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check parameter 6805 (tool life count digit selection: 0=4 digits max 9999, 1=8 digits max 99999999). Verify your program value does not exceed this limit.
Check parameter 6800 bit 0 (TLF: Tool Life Management function enable). If set to 1, verify parameter 6801 (number of tool groups) and 6802 (number of tools per group) are configured correctly.
Correct the tool life value in the program to be within range (typically 1 to 9999 or 1 to 99999999). Reset the alarm with RESET button and restart the program.
